How do you fit more copies on a 3D printer bed?

Choose the lowest practical print orientation, search free rotation, pack the true projected outlines, and verify the result against the printer’s real keep-outs and slicer-generated features.

Use this order

  1. Choose the bed-facing surface. Print height and footprint change together.
  2. Confirm the printer profile. Nominal bed dimensions are not the complete usable shape.
  3. Use Free rotation first. It searches more candidate angles than Locked or 90° modes.
  4. Set part spacing. Keep it separate from the outer edge margin.
  5. Review the actual footprint. Concave parts can interlock; rectangles often waste space.
  6. Verify in the slicer. Supports, brims, skirts, purge structures, and sequential-print clearances can change the answer.

What “maximum” should mean

For heuristic nesting, the honest result is the best independently verified count found under the stated orientation, gap, printer profile, and search budget. It is not automatically a mathematical proof that no denser arrangement exists.
